Kick starting our blog.....

A quick disclaimer - This blog is written by two very book obsessed people. When it comes to books anything goes and we are very very opinionated.

At the time of this posting we are a slightly toasted and celebrating a much anticipated move out of the Great Frozen North (otherwise called North Pole, Alaska) and into civilization.

We are happy to start this blog talking about one of our favorite subjects.....Hot Men....Alpha Men...Nerdy Men...the ones that fascinate us and makes us go....mmmmmm!

Nalini Singh has posted a contest at http://www.nalinisingh.blogspot.com/ in honor of her February 5th release of Mine To Possess. It's pretty simple, write about hot men in fiction, whether books or tv, and explain why they draw us. Forgive us if we tend to go on and on and on but there are so many men, so many reason, and not near enough time.

First on our list....and in no particular order is "Roarke". For those of you who don't recognize the name, he is the Alpha male in JD Robb's "In Death" series. He is descriped as georgeous, with the face of a fallen angel and hint of an Irish brogue. Of course thats nice and all but what really does it for us is how very ALPHA he is......

Definition Break: ALPHA according to the BookeWyrms: An alpha male is possesive about those he considers his own, especially his women. He isn't cruel or controlling, no stalkers allowed. Our Alpha male is intensly loyal and sexy as hell. He can show his vulnerablity but only to those who have earned his trust and devotion.....back to our regularly scheduled programming....

Rourke was a career criminal who took pleasure in the game. He meets a cop, and not just any cop, but one that is a cop from the soles of her boots to the ends of her raggedly chopped hair. It's not what she does it is who she is. Incidentally they met when he was a suspect in her murder investigation. However we don't want to retell the story, we want to explain why this man is so.....mmmmmmmmm!

Rourke loves Eve. That may sound simple but it isn't. He loves her when she works way too hard and too long, when an investigation consumes her, when she is irrational about taking a "blocker", when she fights with his oldest friend, when she closes down emotionally, the fact is he loves all of her...just the way she is. Of course she loves him also, when he is blase about buying a planet, when he makes her host a fancy party for his business associates, when he forces a "blocker" down her throat, when he constantly injects himself into her investigations, when he forces her to face her fears. Then there is the sex....though we won't go into those details, you will just need to go read the books for yourselves.

After hours of discussion, debating the pros and cons of different actors, writers, and formats, we have come to the conclusion that only one man can bring Rourke to life. We would like to introduce you to....Gerard Butler. Yes we know he is Scottish but check him out in PS, I Love You. He does Irish just fine. He is very good at carrying off the intensity we require of our alpha males but he can also show that sweet, silly, loving side that makes us melt. We could also go on and on about how sexy he looks in and out of his clothes but that should be self evident. Note: Roarke doesn't own a dog, we just liked this picture.

Let's see who's next.....

Colonel Brandon from Jane Austen's "Sense & Sensibility" as played by Alan Rickman. He is an older man in love with a vibrant, outgoing and silly younger woman. He shows his longing in understated ways...sweet glances, picnic invites, defense of her mischevious ways and kindness towards her family. But the scene, as shown here, that earns him a spot on our list, is for his helplessness in the face of his love's brush with a life threatening illness. Our toes positively curled when he begs "give me something to do!" Perhaps some of you reading this blog don't find Alan Rickman a sexy man, we however find that his voice is enough to turn our heads and make us wish..... He also plays sexy bad guys.....check out Hans Gruber in Die Hard and the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.

Next on the menu ....yes we could eat him up.....Mr. Darcy, Mark Darcy, Colin Firth, it doesn't matter what his name is we love him. First, Colin Firth. What a versatile actor, he has beautiful deep brown eyes, the sweetest smile and he is an amazing actor. Then, Mr. Darcy, uptight and
sanctimonious or incredibly shy and proud? We say he's shy, a bit uptight but what a sight to watch him loosen up. mmmmmmm.... A proud man, a noble, falling in love with a woman of lesser birth against "his better judgement." His proposal was desperate and poorly worded but it is where we fell in love with him. Granted it was a train wreck and we just couldn't look away, but you had to admire the man for admitting all of his feeling, good and bad. And then there were three....Mark Darcy. Bridget Jones's Diary...Have you seen the movie? If you haven't go rent it....RIGHT NOW....then come back and read this post. Our favorite part is the end....yes it is a love story, yes they get together and that is all to be expected but Colin Firth delivers one of the sexiest lines, in the sexiest voice, in the sexiest manner.

Bridget Jones: Wait a minute. Nice men don't kiss like that.
Mark Darcy: Oh yes they fucking do.

Then of course there is the kiss....mmmmmmmm....enough said. If you don't get it, we can't help you.

Back to books....

Very Alpha Male - Wolf Mackenzie from Mackenzie's Mountain by Linda Howard -The "Hero" - Native American, loner, persecuted, sensual, devoted single father...and sexy. That goes without saying. The "Heroine" - naive, innocent, sheltered, self-professed old maid. What do they have in common? Passion! He loves his son, he loves his land and as soon as he meet her he loves her skin (and boy, does she get under his)....He tries to make her stay away for "her own good" ...did we mention that she is stubborn (and he likes it)....and won't stay away.... Thank goodness because their love story is one that we have to re-read every so often just to remember why we love our Alpha males. Check out the man his son becomes in "Mackenzie's Mission"....sexiness runs in this family.

To close this post, because it is really friggin late, we would like to thank Nalini Singh for the kick in the pants to start this blog, we have had a blast. We will update the blog regularly and hopefully we will hear from other opinionated readers...and writers (hint, hint Nalini). The next post will be from Ohio, wish us luck with our move.
